Couple more detours before we hit the charts.
Gann used astrology and that's beyond dispute. The manner in which he used it could be arguable. Since, not an expert astrologer, my approach is more passive.
Given Gann's assertion of 'vibrations', 'patterns' and 'time', it may be possible to intersect the astrology, pattern and time.
It is said that Gann's Square of Nine was inspired by 'rangoli' in India. I would assume he saw a simple 9-dot rangoli which is widespread in India. The complexity of these patterns increase with more 'dots.'
Rangoli is something like these

If it looks similar to the Square of Nine, or a Mandala, it is so becuase they represent the same.
A brief introduction on the rangoli. These are drawn at the doors, corridors, courtyards and other scared places, to 'protect' the area. The patterns drawn are usually the simple patterns of planetary orbits, in essence invoking the protection of the planets and other elements. It has to be said this is one of the most typical behavior of Indian households, businesses and temples. An extremely common occurence.
For instance if you see the relationship of Venus' and Earth's orbits, and the 'dance' in the skies. You see this:

If the end result looks something like this, its not a coincidence. It is desgined to be so.

There are several sites which have similar, what's called as 'sacred geometry.' Here are bunch of images.
Every planetary orbit differs, and over a single rotation of the outer-planet, makes complex but stable pattern. Below is the orbit of Mercury and Earth. Source. Check out other planetary patterns.

To conclude here: It is good to know that these devices of Gann were based on such observations and its attempt to apply to financial markets. You do not have to delve too much into this but remember couple of points.
1. Fibnacci works at all dimensions
2. Almost all (?) these patterns are fractals
3. These patterns are stable
4. In all patterns there are sharp-edges (vortexes), and these points are 'power' points
5. In almost all the cases, these 'cardinal' points are the most stable points
6. Lower the 'sides' to these patterns, stabler the cardinal points

Addendum: Remember this pattern?
